Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records and supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes. This role involves general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and financial analysis, with cross-functional collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities:
- Reconcile operating and investment bank accounts to the general ledger, recording all related activity such as interest, transfers, gains/losses, and accruals; investigate and resolve discrepancies with banks and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including adjustments for accruals, reversals, and amortization of prepaid expenses.
- Maintain and update schedules for fixed assets and depreciation, ensuring timely and accurate entries.
- Assist with monthly financial close by preparing internal reports and delivering results to department leaders.
- Monitor restricted and budgeted funds; collaborate with project teams to align expenditures with budget limits and prepare variance schedules.
- Analyze and report on departmental spending; provide insights to program managers.
- Support audit preparation by developing lead schedules, responding to inquiries, and gathering supporting documentation.
- Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve outstanding items, verify supporting documentation, and ensure policy compliance for vendor payments.
- Contribute to the implementation of internal controls and financial compliance initiatives.
- Participate in ad hoc projects or assignments at the direction of accounting leadership.
- Uphold internal accounting policies and demonstrate core organizational values in daily operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 2-3 years of experience in corporate or public accounting.
- Proficient in GAAP, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software systems.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively or independently as needed.
